It goes without saying that subscription-based, “monthly” business models have become quite popular. From Birchbox to ShoeMint, to JackThreads, it seems like everyone is offering a membership platform for avid shoppers. So when we came across Los Angeles-based startup, Chic Peek, we were excited to see that it was more than just another monthly subscription business.
Founded by former marketing executive, Sasan Mirtorabi, Chic Peek offers members one piece of unique jewelry per month, along with detailed trend reports, giveaways and a top-tier referral program. Focused on bringing customers the “best possible product or service at the lowest possible price,” Susan is making high-end brand jewelry affordable and personal for the average fashion enthusiast. What makes Chic Peek even better is that you are not required to join. Yes, membership comes with great perks, such as free shipping and access to an in-house stylist, but customers can simply shop for affordable jewelry without a monthly commitment.
Excited by this business model and its determination to offer the best possible product at the lowest possible price, TWF reached out to Sasan, the Founder of Chic Peek, to ask him some questions of our own.

TWF: What inspired you to start ChicPeek?

SM: I left my last and final job in marketing and took a trip around the world to learn about the jewelry industry. I attended multiple trade shows across a few continents, meeting many influential people in the Industry along the way. I came back to LA and took some time to figure what it is that I wanted to do that was different and innovative for the industry. I decided that I want to be able to bring my clients/customers the best possible product or service at the lowest possible price. If I’m not delivering that to my clients then I’ve failed as a business man.

TWF: What value does ChicPeek have that makes it stand out against other fashion tech companies?

SM: We believe that no outfit is complete without the perfect jewelry pieces to compliment your individual style. Here at Chic Peek we consider ourselves a boutique provider in the space. We offer our members unbelievable deals on high-end branded fashion jewelry. There is no one else in the space offering the quality of merchandise at the prices we have. In addition to great merchandise, we are also continuing to evolve our product to deliver a better, more tailored shopping experience. We’ve only been launched for about 3 months now and are already redesigning our shopping experience. We plan on launching new features and design in the next 60 days.

TWF: What has been the hardest obstacle for you in the process of building the company? What has been your favorite part?

SM: I don’t view any one thing as being “hard” in regards to starting this business. There are many challenges when starting and growing a business and they change constantly. I happen to actually enjoy solving problems and working my way through it all. I feel like the one piece of advice I might give to someone starting out is to make sure they have patience and try not to get too frustrated in those ever-so frustrating moments. Having that patience and being able to manage ones personal feelings can go a long way.
