Wearable Tech Startup: Meet SHAMMANE

This Paris-based wearable tech startup has kept the smartwatch–but gotten rid of the bulky unattractiveness. This beautiful watch face with interchangeable straps represents understated French design at it’s best. We asked SHAMMANE’s co-founder & CEO, Arnaud Lancelot, to tell us more.

Describe SHAMMANE.

The SHAMMANE smartwatch is an innovative and stylish example of a fusion of jewelry and technology. We are bringing Parisian elegance and fashion into the smartwatch industry.

What inspired you to create the SHAMMANE smartwatch?

We noticed that most of the current smartwatches are designed as technological products. Most of the time they are created and design by IT and industrial companies. But a smartwatch is neither a computer, nor a smartphone but rather at the edge of jewelry and technology. Smartwatches emotional dimension is much stronger, as it is an object in contact with our own skin. We designed our watch to adapt to our lifestyles and wardrobes. We made it user-friendly, beautiful, pure and elegant.

What sets the SHAMMANE apart from other wearables in the space?

With SHAMMANE, we wanted to stop focusing on technology and bring back the jewelry aspect of a watch. We are in a way going against what already exists in the smartwatch industry. The idea is to be able to take distance with your connected life by considering this watch as a filter between your real and your digital life. With SHAMMANE you choose how and when you want to stay connected, without sacrificing style.

The SHAMMANE watch presents an elegant timeless dial, with interchangeable straps that come in three collection packs of two colors. The idea is to launch one new collection per year that will be designed based on a theme linked to shamanism and the latest trendy fabrics and colors, like a fashion collection. Thereby the watch becomes the mirror of its wearer’s mood and personality more than a connected gadget

What has been the hardest obstacle for you in creating your smartwatch? What has been your favorite part?

My favorite parts have been creating our SHAMMANE community, watching it grow day by day, taking care of it, and trying to offer our customers the best design we can achieve. The hardest part has been reaching our customers with a very small communication budget.
