The Other Festival

The Other Festival

This is looking to be a really cool event—an inaugural all female festival celebrating female makers and creators! The Other Festival will take place on June 11th in New York. Here’s more about it:

What is The Other Festival?

The Other Festival showcases the makers and creators of this generation, the women who are redefining how to do business, setting their own rules, putting new systems in place, pushing their own agendas. Inventors, storytellers, founders, artists who can’t be boxed in.

Meet the smartest people innovating in music, art, fashion, tech, food, design and photography today. Hear their stories, see their work and connect with other big thinkers with big ideas.

The line up of speakers looks awesome: Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code; Selby Drummond, Accessories Director at Vogue; Abrima Erwiah, Founder of Studio 189; Brett Heyman, Founder of Edie Parker; and Nadia Lopez, Educator to name just a few. The musicians will of course be female and feature such ladies as: Lindsey Stirling, Chelsea Leyland, Vashtie Kola, Justine Skye, Yuna and many more.

The Other Festival will have workshops on design, coding, blogging, social media, video blogging, photography, and selling yourself. There will also be a SMART SHOP village where “Designers, artists, storytellers, makers, are invited to showcase their work.” The festival’s media and event partners include WE NYC, Live Nation, Galore, theSkimm, Univision Communications, NYLON, and Ogilvy.

It is definitely worth mentioning that Dee Poku is the creator of The Other Festival and also happens to be Founder and CEO of the WIE Network. The WIE (Woman, Inspiration and Enterprise) Network is an innovative women’s leadership network that curates “compelling conversations with notable industry figures designed to empower the next generation and equip them with the tools to succeed.”

This event will take place on June 11th at the Brooklyn Mirage in New York. To get more details and to buy tickets visit their Eventbrite page or their website. See you there?
